Top Tier Hotel Benefit: Sex Talk?

You can’t make this stuff up! And this is just too great not to share. IHG recently reorganized their Rewards Club, and announced the name of their top tier membership level called Spire Elite. The perks for those lucky enough to be a part of the Spire Elite level include room upgrades, rollover nights, 100% bonus points on stays, and a Choice Benefit of either 25,000 points or upgrading a friend to Platinum Elite status. Oh, and then there is one other…(ahem) perk.

A 24-hour customer care sex line.

Okay, okay. Not really. It was all just a big fat mistake. Yeah, they accidentally printed the wrong customer service line on the back of the card, and it happened to be a sex line. I called the number, uh, strictly in the interest of journalism, and I can confirm that it was most definitely a sex line. Naturally, IHG figured out their mistake shortly after sending out their cards and sent me (as well as everyone else who is in the top tier) an email explaining the error:

Dear Keith,

As an IHG® Rewards Club Spire Elite member, we recently sent you your new Spire Elite Membership card. Unfortunately, the incorrect Customer Care number was printed on the reverse of your card. To make sure you have all of the correct information to contact us should you need to, we will be sending you a new card.

In the meantime, should you need to contact us, the correct number is

844-774-7300.

Please dispose of the card you have today. I apologize for any inconvenience caused, and thank you for your continued Loyalty to IHG®.

The mistake was a rather easy one to make. Instead of printing 844-774-7300 on the card, they put 800-774-7300.
Personally, I find the mistake hilarious. Embarrassing? Sure. But mainly hilarious! I mean, what are the odds??

Bottom line

In all seriousness, the IHG Rewards Club is a good club to be a part of. IHG is one of the largest hotel companies in the world. They own several brands we’re all familiar with, including InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, Hotel Indigo, Holiday Inn, and Candlewood Suites, just to name a few. You can stay in one of their hotels almost anywhere. They run roughly 4,800 hotels in over 100 countries. If only their real customer service line was more exciting...
