Top Seven Travel Essentials for Your Next Trip Abroad: Part Four

So you’re planning a trip, and you think you have everything you need. Your bags are packed, your passport is in hand, you’ve got an unlocked cell phone and plan on buying a SIM card once you land, and your wallet has one or two no foreign transaction fee credit cards in it. You’re all set, right?

Wrong. I mean, sure, you could go and have a lovely trip. But there's one other thing you’ll want to pack (besides a little patience) that’ll help keep you sane on the plane rides, and in the hotels, hostels, or Airbnb houses you plan on staying at. And that, my friends, is a good set of headphones.

A case for noise canceling headphones

I’ve talked about headphones before. Specifically noise canceling headphones. And I still believe they’re a must. Here’s what I said the last time I wrote about them:

Have you ever been on a noisy flight? Whether it was a neighbor that would not stop talking, a baby that didn’t appreciate being forced to fly, or you wanted to get some shut-eye, noise-canceling headphones can be important.

I haven’t had many flights where I’ve been too annoyed by the passengers around me (lucky?), but in general, I like headphones that cover my ears. You see, I’ve been told my ears are small. That may be true. I don’t know. But I wouldn’t be surprised if it is, because not many in-ear headphones are comfortable for me to wear. And I like listening to my favorite podcasts during flights!
So, if you travel a lot, and don’t have a good pair of headphones, get some! I’ve read that Bose Quietcomfort 25 headphones are near the top of the pack. I’ve also heard Beats by Dre are pretty good too (though maybe a little frickin expensive? Jeez!).

However, the pair that I use, and love, is the Classic Parrot Zik. You can use them wirelessly with bluetooth, or, if they’re not charged, you can connect them with a cord.
Having said that, any kind of headphone is better than none at all. I still carry the Zik headphones with me on trips. I also take a backup set of the Apple headphones just in case.

Whether it’s to watch a movie on the plane, catch up with your podcasts, listen to some music, finish an audiobook, or try to learn a foreign language, headphones are pertinent when traveling.

To be continued…

Now, with all this stuff you’ll be carrying on this trip, you’ll need something to carry it all in. Unfortunately, not all carry-ons are created equal. My top choices in my next post on the Top Seven Travel Essentials for Your Next Trip Abroad.
