Playing in Playa del Carmen: Part One

My trip to Mexico started out about as hectic as I remember any trip I've ever been on. Crystal and I left my Dallas apartment at about 7:00am to drop off my keys for the cat sitter before heading to DFW International Airport. Our flight didn't leave until 11:00am but we left early because the whole way there was an ice rink (sadly, I'm not exaggerating). The night before it snowed and/or sleeted about 3-7 inches in the area. And let me tell you, for a city the size of Dallas, (which has seen it's fair share of winter weather every year I've lived here) it is completely ill-equipped to handle any amount of snow or ice. As luck - and my driving skillzz - would have it, we got to the airport without incident at about 9:00am.
Flying Sun Country

For the most part it was uneventful. They are a smaller company and I did notice a few things.

  • The good: we each got one free checked bag. The employees were very nice. It didn't take us long to check into our flight at DFW b/c there wasn't much of a line.
  • The bad: our flight was delayed about an hour and a half, but they never updated the board to show it was delayed for more than an hour (more on this same problem during my blog about our return trip).

Arriving in Cancun, Mexico

What can I say? It was awesome! Leaving the snow and the cold for the warm sun and the beach? No complaints here.  We got off the plane, walked through customs in no time, and were off to Playa del Carmen. The car service we used was Lomas Travel. After walking through the "time share" area of the airport (which you really should avoid) we walked outside and found the van we took to El Dorado Seaside Suites. The party started on the ride there. And needless to say - it continued once we got there...

Move to Florida and Dallas. Blood thins out. Complain about a little ice. But Mexico sounds great!

Haha! Part of that may certainly be true! But it wasn't the ice/freezing rain falling from the sky I was complaining about. I was complaining b/c they can't/don't handle it like Illinois does :)

And Mexico was great!
