Sometimes you have those moments in life when you realize just how lucky you are. This past weekend was one of them. It was recently my birthday and I had the surprise trip of a lifetime! My girlfriend, Crystal, surprised me with a trip home to Chicago. My whole family was in on it (they’re good at keeping a surprise).
After a night at the bar with some friends of mine (above) Crystal surprised me with a little word puzzle. Solving it revealed where we were going (I don’t know what she would have done if I never solved it)! Here’s the thing: I knew we were going somewhere. What I didn’t know was where. I had my guesses. I thought we may be going on a roadtrip to Austin. Or possibly New Orleans. But not Chicago. She got me good! And I loved every second of it.
We caught our flights at the always pleasant DFW International before landing at O’Hare. Below is a time-lapse video I took of our takeoff from DFW.
And this video is of our landing at O'Hare.
Once on the ground, we were picked up by my Dad. The three of us then met my Mom, and the rest of my family at a great German restaurant in Glendale Heights, IL, called Schnitzel Platz.
The next day, we hung out before meeting even more of my family at Lou Malnati’s for the best pizza on this planet, hands down. Our flight back to DFW was on Sunday night, capping off an amazing weekend with friends, family, and my amazing love, Crystal. I’m a lucky guy, aren’t I?
