American Express Rolls Out Plenti

The new American Express loyalty program called Plenti has just launched. I told you about the program back in mid-March. It’s free to join. And if you do become a member, you’ll probably end up earning points on some bills you already have!

I just signed up myself. And I’m kind of excited to start earning points from retailers I use already - like AT&T, and Direct Energy. The points are worth one cent apiece.

Companies you can now earn points from include:

Signing up is easy. It took me less than five minutes. Once that’s done, you’ll see a welcome page and an opportunity to “activate” offers from different Plenti partners.

Here are some other examples of how you can earn points:

  • AT&T: earn one point per dollar on your monthly bill. Your Plenti account needs to be linked to your AT&T account. I just did this and it takes 30 seconds. This also requires you to have paperless billing.

  • Exxon and/or Mobil: fill up at either one of these stations and you’ll get one point per gallon of gas or two points per dollar on non-fuel purchases.

  • Enterprise, National, and Alamo: if you rent cars a lot this is a good one to remember! You’ll get one point per dollar on a car rental.

You can also activate offers for individual products (like, for example, a can of OFF! bug spray) under the “household offers” tab, and earn points that way. But in order to qualify for these offers you need to link a store rewards card to your Plenti account. Several big grocery chains, like Kroger, Publix, Tom Thumb, Whole Foods, and Trader Joe’s, aren’t partnered with Plenti (yet) so I am guessing most people won’t be able to earn points this way.

Plenti also has an online shopping portal. The offers there look typical, and it’s a way to earn points a little faster, or double dip if you’d like.

Here’s a funny little Plenti promotional video:

Bottom line

I’m interested to see how long it takes me to earn points, and how easy it is to use points. This is something I’ll use in combination with my credit cards, not in lieu of. Have you, or will you sign up? Let me know below.
