American Announces First 787 Dreamliner  Routes

About a month ago, American Airlines got their first Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Today, we know the very first route it'll fly. American says the Dreamliner will begin service on May 7th from Dallas/Fort Worth International (DFW) to Chicago O'Hare International (ORD). They'll fly this route for just about one month, which is a normal practice for airlines. The reason for this, is to give the flight crew the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the plane.

I'm super excited about this because, these days, I fly mostly from Dallas to Chicago and back. I would love to purchase a ticket on this plane! If you are interested, you should be able to buy a seat on Valentine's Day (February 14th, for those that don't celebrate).

The other two routes already announced:
  • Dallas to Beijing starting on June 2nd
  • Dallas to Buenos Aires beginning on June 6th
What is so special about the 787 Dreamliner?

The Dreamliner is a pretty fuel efficient plane because of the fuselage, which is made of lightweight materials. It's less noisy than other planes of similar size. The windows are bigger (if you care about that), but what's even cooler is that there are no shades on the windows. Passengers are able to dim the windows with a button. A button! What?!

A couple more things of note: First, the plane has gas filters, which make the cabin smell better. Secondly, the Dreamliner will set a cabin pressure at 6,000 feet, instead of the typical 8,000 feet. This allows the body to absorb more oxygen, reducing the likelihood of feeling air sick.

This plane is probably just the first of many planes like it to come. I can't wait. Hopefully I'll be able to book a seat!

How do you think ticket prices for a trip on this plane will compare to those for the older planes?

Maybe a little bit more than a ticket on one of their regular planes that fly this route (because demand may be higher for this plane), but I can't imagine it being a LOT more.
