It’s October. And that means many things. It means cooler temperatures for many. It means Halloween for others. It means playoff baseball. Heck, it also means the holiday season is nearly here! But there’s also something else the month of October means: breast cancer awareness month. If you can, I encourage you to donate. There are many ways you can go about doing so. Some are better than others. And some give you something in return (besides that good feeling you get when you do donate). One nice way you can go about it is through American Airlines’ program called Miles for a Cure. The nice thing about doing it this way? Not only are you supporting a great cause, but you’re getting rewarded by doing so! American says if you donate “$25 or more you’ll be able to earn 20 American Airlines AAdvantage miles for every dollar donated.” For example, if you donate $50 you’ll get 1,000 miles, which is about average (maybe a little below) if you are just “buying” or “gifting” AA miles.
Bottom line Before you go giving money to whoever, I recommend checking out which charities are worth donating to by going to sites like charitynavigator.org, or give.org. The reason I only mentioned American Airlines is because I got an email from them promoting their Miles for a Cure program. It’s likely there are other airlines that offer similar programs. There’s no doubt millions across the country have been affected by cancer. I’m sure any help they can get to finding a cure will help.
