It’s popular to say “2016 sucked” or “2016 trolled everyone.” I disagree, as unpopular as that may be. I honestly don’t really have many complaints about 2016. My blog has grown in readership, I got a couple promotions at work. Yeah, 2016 was pretty good to me. And I, for one, enjoyed most of the 365 days of 2016.
Most popular posts Over the past 12 months I’ve written about everything from whether Airbnb is worth considering to using Costco to travel the world. But what were you, the reader, most interested in? Here are my top 10 posts of the past year:

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say Google is one of the most used travel tools there is. Whether it’s a question about a particular city you’re about to visit, like “Where to spend New Year’s in Chicago?”, or a generic query about travel, like “What can go in a carry-on?”, Google is a very convenient tool.
So what were the top 10 travel-related Google searches in 2016? Here they are:
This should now be a goal on all future flights: on December 7th the captain of a Southwest Airlines flight from Oakland to Kansas City made an announcement congratulating the passengers for drinking all the booze on board. Quite the remarkable feat in my estimation.
"Someone in the government is actually working."
Now that’s something you, uh, hardly ever hear, say, or write. But thanks to Senator Ben Sasse, that is a sentence being uttered a little more as of late. Wine is a magical drink. And there are places all over the country that offer tours, wine tastings, and more. I’ve been to wineries in North Texas, Michigan, Illinois.
The 4th of July is the day when our nation celebrates it's independence. But when did it become a federal holiday? And if you're headed to a barbecue, you're certainly not alone.
With that, I have two things for you. One of those things is the best 4th of July speech you'll hear today. But first, here is this very detailed and interesting info graphic about our nation's independence: It’s time to put the school books away, hide the sweaters, and dust off those bathing suits. The summer travel season is upon us. You can tell based on the disgustingly long security lines at many of the major airports. Yeah, you’re certainly not gonna be alone in your travel plans: Americans plan on spending nearly $83 billion this summer. 5.5% more than in 2015 when booking vacations online.
I’m sure many of you have already (at least) started to plan your summer vacation. But, as the saying goes, are you getting the most bang for your buck? Sometimes it’s hard to tell. Is it a better deal to go to Las Vegas or New York? How about Orlando or Los Angeles? Dallas or Denver? |
